The Long Branch, New Jersey, Beach Replenishment Story |
In 1997, our beach looked very sad.
And though it could look quite beautiful at times...
...it was too narrow to provide the city much protection against storms. |
Then the Army Corps of Engineers came along in a big red pump ship... |
...and laid pipe from the ship to the beach. |
They pumped sand onto the beach (center of photo), as well as tiny fishes that the seagulls enjoyed. |
Little by little the beach grew wider (view toward north)... |
...and wider (view toward south)... |
...until now it is very wide indeed... |
...and it's a great place to have a walk and a laugh with a friend. |
